世俗的な休日 : 勤労感謝の日は、国民の祝日に関する法律（祝日法、昭和23年7月20日法律第178号）第2条によれば、「勤労をたつとび、生産を祝い、国民たがいに感謝しあう」ことを趣旨としている。1948年（昭和23年）に公布・施行された同法により制定された。 農業国家である日本は、古くから神々に五穀の収穫を祝う風習があった。また、その年の収穫物は国家としてもそれからの一年を養う大切な蓄えとなることから、収穫物に感謝する大事な行事として飛鳥時代の皇極天皇の時代に始まった新嘗祭（にいなめさい、しんじょうさい）の日が第二次世界大戦後のGHQの占領政策によって天皇行事・国事行為から切り離される形で改められたものが「勤労感謝の日」である。 [Wikipedia]

世俗的な休日 : 成人の日は、国民の祝日に関する法律（祝日法、昭和23年7月20日法律第178号）第2条によれば「おとなになったことを自覚し、みずから生き抜こうとする青年を祝いはげます」ことを趣旨としている。この日には、各市町村で新成人を招いて成人式が行われる。（ただし、豪雪の影響や帰省しやすい時期等を考慮して大型連休中やお盆に行われる地方も多い） 本来、成人の日は、前年の成人の日の翌日からその年の成人の日までに誕生日を迎える人（例：1998年の新成人の場合は1997年1月16日から1998年1月15日までに20歳になった人）を祝う日だったが、2000年（平成12年）のハッピーマンデー制度実施以降では、前年の4月2日からその年の4月1日に成人する人を式典参加の対象にする、いわゆる学齢方式が定着するようになっている。 [Wikipedia]
